Spadge Hopkins Artist
Public Art
Spadge Hopkins has a growing number of artworks on display to the public.
'Coda'
His first piece was as the lead creative in a project commissioned by Cambridge City Council and named “Coda” as a permanent art memorial to Syd Barrett of Pink Floyd in The Cambridge Corn Exchange and unveiled in 2017.
The Cormorants of Woodbridge
A series of outdoor sculptures on the waterside trail in Woodbridge, Suffolk. Some are situated on boats, some on posts. All await discovery as people amble along the waterside resting to take in the view they suddenly notice the bird sculptures.
The pieces are given added interest by the shadows they are designed to create, not one but two art pieces are created here, one the sculpture in itself, and two, the play of light upon it and the shadows thus created.
The Deben Yacht Club
The Deben Yacht Club loved their Cormorant so much that they commissioned a piece of their own for their clubhouse, which would also double up as a sign. It was galvanised to match the gate and railings. The inspiration came from a photograph from one of the exciting dinghy races that are regularly held by the club.
'River for All'
The Museum of East Anglian Life rebranded as the Food Museum and as one of its first projects, the Scottish Power Foundation funded the ‘River for All’ sculpture trail with accessible pathways along the museum’s riverwalk to give visitors the opportunity to experience nature.
Spadge was one of 8 artists whose work ( 5 sculptures of birds and raptors from the local area) was selected to explore the importance of maintaining wildlife habitats in rural communities and to encourage walkers to explore the area.
'Ferini's Seagull'
Spadge particularly likes Pakefield. He has shown and sold work at Mikaela's Ferini Gallery for a number of years.
The atmosphere is very relaxed and gentle and it's usually sunny when he visits. There's a nice beach for a walk, a decent fish and chip shop without the queues and hype of some other places.
As a thank you he placed this seagull there.
Artworks can be purchased from the artist. Please contact Spadge directly if you wish to make an enquiry.
Sculptures are all available as indoor or outdoor sculptures.
The indoor sculptures can be scaled up and surface treated to allow them to live outdoors.
Many of Spadge’s pieces are unique. Several of his copper sculptures have been hand made in a limited batch of 5. The process of laser cutting which is all done by Spadge himself except for the actual machine work, lends itself to mass-production. However, all Spadge’s designs are limited to a run of 10, no matter what size. They are now marked as ev (edition Variee) */10 as well as being signed.
